It has become a popular alternative to larger more expensive machines for the DIY CNC enthusiast. Now, lets add a laser to it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Upgrade Mounting Options<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a few options you can do for choosing your laser kit.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Spindle mount bundle will attach the laser into the chuck. The generic magnet mount requires you put the laser in front of the spindle on a plate that you manufacture to hold the plastic magnet plate that will attach to the laser. Remember to check that you have the correct side BEFORE you start putting it through the chains.  <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>When you are done with the extension cable, then find a place on the gantry to put the magnetic mounting plate.  It needs to be high enough not to get in the way of the chuck when you don&#8217;t have a laser attached, but low enough that the laser will be below the chuck when installed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Setting Up Mach4<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First thing to do is make sure you are using the correct version of Mach4 and the ESS plugin.  The current recommended version for laser use is <a href=\"https:\/\/warp9td.com\/files\/Software\/Mach4\/Mach4Hobby_Installer-4.2.0.4809.exe\">Mach4 Hobby version&nbsp;4.2.0.4809<\/a>&nbsp;with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/warp9td.com\/files\/Plugins\/ESS\/Mach4\/ESS_Mach4_v283.zip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ESS 283<\/a>.  This version will work with the laser the best.  Version 284 of the plugin should not be used.  Version 285 is being released, but is currently not recommended for laser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After you verify this, you can open up the mach4 loader by clicking on \u201cMach4GUI\u201d and it will bring up the prompt to choose your profile<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"374\" height=\"367\" src=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Mach4-Loader-clone-profile.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35770 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Mach4-Loader-clone-profile.jpg 374w, https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Mach4-Loader-clone-profile-300x294.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Mach4-Loader-clone-profile-150x147.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 374px) 100vw, 374px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Once the loader is open, clone your working profile for your CNC by clicking the &#8220;copy profile&#8221; button.  You can then name the new profile &#8220;J Tech Laser&#8221;.  Never modify your working CNC profile.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>When prompted for a screen set you may choose the same AvidCNC.set and modify it. Alternatively, it is possible to use the generic laser screen set for Mach 4: <a href=\"https:\/\/warp9td.com\/images\/FAQ\/Mach4\/ESS%20Laser%20v3.set\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ESS Laser Screen Set v 3.0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can see an example of the laser screen set below.  It is not necessary to use the laser screen set. Then, set your Laser Test Mode to a percentage that is low for your laser.  We have it at 1% here, but you might have a different number.
