{"id":2482,"date":"2015-04-23T12:27:38","date_gmt":"2015-04-23T17:27:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/?page_id=2482"},"modified":"2020-03-05T11:58:32","modified_gmt":"2020-03-05T17:58:32","slug":"rigidbot-upgrade","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/?page_id=2482","title":{"rendered":"Rigidbot Laser Upgrade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/rigidbot-150.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2483\" src=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/rigidbot-150.jpg\" alt=\"rigidbot 150\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/rigidbot-150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/rigidbot-150-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>The Rigidbot was a successful kickstarter project that created a printer that could be expanded based on the frame, so you could theroectically make whatever size you want. \u00a0Just use your imagination and you can build a GIANT printer (if you have the time and money&#8230;). \u00a0The basic design is not giant, but easy to build and affordable. \u00a0So, many people bought them, and you still can at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inventapart.com\/rigidbot.php\">Inventapart.com<\/a>. \u00a0The machine is based on the Reprap RAMPS 1.4 and the marlin firmware, so it will be a snap to upgrade. \u00a0So let&#8217;s start!<\/p>\n<p>Special thanks go to Isaac Braud for testing it all out on his printer!<\/p>\n<h3>Electronics<\/h3>\n<p>Setting this up should be very easy. \u00a0The technical details on the electronics are located on the wiki <a href=\"http:\/\/rigidtalk.com\/wiki\/index.php?title=Technical_Specifications\">HERE<\/a>. \u00a0You will be using the FAN 1 connector which is located on the extruder breakout board. This is fully PWM capable as well. \u00a0The laser will be on the extruder Z axis assembly, so the cord to the laser should be kept wound up and zip tied. \u00a0You can use the FAN 2 connection to cool the extruder instead of the FAN 1 you just used for the laser.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/RigidBOT-connection.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2484\" src=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/RigidBOT-connection.jpg\" alt=\"RigidBOT connection\" width=\"451\" shouldn&#8217;t need to change anything with the marlin firmware that ships on the motherboard of the printer. \u00a0Use the following commands in our inkscape pluggin (or whatever G Code SW you want):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>M106 Sxxx \u00a0 &#8211; Turn the laser ON at power XXX, where XXX is a number between 0 and 255.<\/li>\n<li>M106 S0 &#8211; Turn the laser OFF<\/li>\n<li>M107 &#8211; Another way to turn the laser OFF<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p>M106 S127 \u00a0 (Turns on the laser at a power of 50%)<\/p>\n<p>M106 S255 \u00a0(Turns on the laser at a power of 100%)<\/p>\n<p>M106 S25 \u00a0(Turns on the laser at a power of 10%)<\/p>\n<h3>Mechanical<\/h3>\n<p>Isaac designed a mount to fit on the extruder assembly. \u00a0His mount is on Thingiverse
