of the Z Axis.\u00a0 We figured this allows for more upgrades of the Z Axis, including the Z axis slider upgrades.\u00a0 It also just cleans up the upgrade and makes it easier to install.\u00a0 We screw holes for the mounting.\u00a0 Install the metal mounting plate on the left side of the router holder.\u00a0 There are two screws included in the kit for this.\u00a0 Note, if you have a dust boot, you need to take off the side rails.<\/p>\n<p>For normal operation, use the two lower holes to mount.\u00a0 For using the rotary, then use the two higher holes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" Software Setup Video<\/h2>\n<p>We recommend<a href=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/?product=lightburn-software\"> lightburn software<\/a> for running your laser.\u00a0 Here is how to set it up on your X Carve.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S0tM7UP2e2E\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Mechanical<\/h2>\n<p>You have the choice in the X Carve Kit option to either have a shrouded laser or not.\u00a0 Also, there is the option to have either the standard or a dust boot.\u00a0 There are two options to choose from:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Standard Front Mount<\/li>\n<li>Dust Boot Mount<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The standard mount will work with a dust boot, but you need to take off the bottom part and leave the rails.\u00a0 The dust boot mount will have the laser off to the side so you don&#8217;t need to remove anything, including the bottom of the dust boot from the machine to use the laser.<\/p>\n<p>If you want an older mount, just let us know and we will get it for you.\u00a0 We have been offering the X Carve laser kit since the beginning, so there have been multiple iterations.<\/p>\n<h2>Electrical<\/h2>\n<p>The wiring is pretty easy on the upgrade.\u00a0 You will need to start with the 10&#8242; extension cables at the gantry and route them back to the laser driver on top of the controller.<\/p>\n<p>For the input signal, simply connect the Molex mini fit Jr. 3&#8242; cable included in the <a href=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/?product=x-carve-mounting-kit\">Mounting kit<\/a> from the laser driver to the controller. No need to upgrade to anything else to be able to run and even do pictures.<\/p>\n<p>It is best to check to make sure your settings are correct though.\u00a0 You can send a &#8220;$$&#8221; command to list your settings.\u00a0 The ones you need to check are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>$30 = 255 (max Laser Power)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>$31 = 0 (min Laser Power)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>$32 = 1 (Laser Mode Enabled)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can change the values by just sending the setting and the value you want.\u00a0 For example, to change the max laser power you send &#8220;$30 = 255&#8221; and press send.<\/p>\n<p>To turn on and off the laser the command is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Laser ON: \u00a0M03<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Laser OFF: \u00a0M05<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you want to use power control for the laser (via Pulse Width Modulation) the laser command is:<\/p>\n<p><strong>M03 SXXXXX<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Where the &#8220;XXX&#8221; is a number between 0 and 255. \u00a0So, some examples are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Laser ON 100%: \u00a0M03 255<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Laser ON 50%: \u00a0M03 S127<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Laser ON low power: \u00a0M03 S11<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Laser OFF: \u00a0M03 S0 (or M05 will work as well&#8230;)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Running the Machine<\/h4>\n<p>We recommend not using Easel to control your machine when using the laser. \u00a0If you are using the firmware installed on your machine (the firmware that came with your machine) then you can use Easel when routing.<\/p>\n<p>There are a lot of different \u201csender\u201d programs that will work with your machine. \u00a0In the inside of your machine is something called \u201cGRBL\u201d that directs how the machine moves and interprets the G Code file. \u00a0The G Code file is the \u201cinstructions\u201d and GRBL just needs some program to \u201csend\u201d it to the GRBL that is in the firmware of your control board.<\/p>\n<p>We now recommend using Lightburn Software.\u00a0 It is an all in one solution for doing vectors, pictures, and running the machine in the same program.\u00a0 Here is how to set up the Lightburn complete the upgrade, lets get into the details on how to put it all together. \u00a0These instructions show the 1000mm kit installation. \u00a0On the 500mm machine you will probably not need the power cord extender.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s get started!<\/p>\n<h4>STEP 1:\u00a0 Put a Zip Tie Holder on the Back of the Z Gantry Plate<\/h4>\n<p>We are going to start by routing the laser and fan extension cables.\u00a0 This zip tie holder will hold the ends of the extension cables in place.<\/p>\n<h4><a Zip Tie the Extension Cables to the Drag Chain<\/h4>\n<p>Put Zip Ties on the outside of the cable chain and attach the extension cables to it.\u00a0 If you have not started building your X Carve, put the extension cables on the INSIDE of the cable chain.\u00a0 If you have already built yours, it is very hard to get them inside the chain, so we opt to just put them on the outside.<\/p>\n<p><a
