&nbsp;Let&#8217;s make it a laser cutter as well! &nbsp;Here is how to implement the <a title=\"New! 2.8W Laser and 2.5amp Safety Compliant Driver Kit, with US Style Power Adapter\" href=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/?product=new-2-8w-laser-and-2-5amp-safety-compliant-driver-kit-with-us-style-power-adapter\">J Tech Photonics laser upgrade kit<\/a>&nbsp;to the Solidoodle printers.<\/p>\n<p>First things first, you need to figure out what you have on your particular machine. &nbsp;Solidoodles have been shipping for awhile, and they are always changing and improving them. &nbsp;So, take a look and follow the instructions for whatever hardware you have.<\/p>\n<h2>Solidoodle 4, Workbench, &amp; WB Apprentice:<\/h2>\n<p>Upgrading the new solidoodle machines is super easy! I have totally different board than the PrintRBoard, help!<\/h3>\n<p>If you look at your machine and it does not have a PrintRBoard, then you probably have one shipped with a <a href=\"http:\/\/reprap.org\/wiki\/Sanguinololu\">sanguinololu board<\/a>. &nbsp;It still can be upgraded, but is a bit more of an effort. &nbsp;Your board probably looks like this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/S3board3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1067\" src=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/S3board3-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"S3board3\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/S3board3-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/S3board3-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/S3board3-36x20.jpg 36w, https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/S3board3-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/S3board3-32x18.jpg 32w, https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/S3board3.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The board has some extra stuff in it like analog outputs and PWM. &nbsp;The IO header has a PWM output as well as 5 analog outputs you can use. &nbsp;A Solidoodle 2 owner, Ian Johnson, has made a pretty good write-up on how to add a controllable fan to the sanguinololu board here: &nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/solidoodletips.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/26\/gcode-controlled-extruder-fan\/\">http:\/\/solidoodletips.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/26\/gcode-controlled-extruder-fan\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You won&#8217;t need to bother with the mosfet driver, because the input for the laser driver is a digital isolator that only needs a couple of miliamps to turn on. &nbsp;So, all you need to do is connect up the IO header to the input for the laser driver. &nbsp;If you bought the<a title=\"1.7W 445nm Laser Diode and 2.0 Amp Adjustable Driver Kit, OEM\" href=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/?product=1-7w-445nm-laser-diode-and-2-5-amp-adjustable-driver-kit-oem\"> OEM kit from us in the shop<\/a>, then you can use the header in the picture about that says &#8220;LASER POWER&#8221; to power the laser driver board.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Pin-connections.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1068\" src=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Pin-connections-300x199.png\" alt=\"Pin connections\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Pin-connections-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Pin-connections-36x23.png 36w, https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Pin-connections-150x99.png 150w, https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Pin-connections-32x21.png 32w, https:\/\/jtechphotonics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Pin-connections.png 563w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The cool part is that you are using the PWM output from the board. &nbsp;This means you have power control! &nbsp;Adjust the laser driver potentiometer to have the maximum power level you want, say 1amp. &nbsp;Then, use the speed command as part of your G Code. &nbsp;The laser power can then be adjusted on the fly from 0 to 255 levels. &nbsp;For all on, use M106 s255. &nbsp;To turn it on half power it is M106 s127. &nbsp;To turn off the laser, use M107. &nbsp;Just modify your G Code file for your part to put in the levels you want. &nbsp;Repetier host also has a button and a slider to control the laser (it will be marked &#8220;fan&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>Ian mentions that you might need to modify the firmware as well. &nbsp;He writes from his post:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The fan may not already be activated in firmware, so follow the directions <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soliwiki.com\/Updating_Solidoodle_Firmware\">here<\/a>&nbsp;for how to download and update the firmware. &nbsp;When you have the firmware open in Arduino, change to the Pins.H tab. &nbsp;This will probably be too far down to appear at the top of the screen, but on the right side there will be an arrow that pulls down the full list. &nbsp;Scroll about halfway down, looking for the section for Sangiunololu. &nbsp;In that section look for<\/p>\n<p>#define FAN_PIN &nbsp;
