The difference is that this bad boy can run for extended times at 2.2W at 1.5amps! \u00a0This laser has a maximum limit of over 2.8W at 2.5amps and should only be over-driven like this for very short times. \u00a0 This level of power certainly creates the ability to cut more and do more with your laser. \u00a0The spot size is a bit bigger, so very small engraving will be a bit more difficult, but the trade-off in more optical power on the work surface is worth it. \u00a0This laser is very effective and can run for extended times at 1.5amps\u00a0and we recommend not going much over 2 amps for extended periods of \u201con time\u201d. \u00a0This laser also has internal ESD device for an extra level of static protection.<\/p>\n<p>This multi transverse mode laser diode component is pressed fit mounted in an aluminum housing and has an aluminum mountable heat-sink. \u00a0The laser is set in the heat sink with thermally conductive paste. \u00a0The front of the component contains a adjustable glass focusing lens for the laser output. \u00a0The laser has an ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM of 2.8W at 2.5amps and should only be run at this level for very short times. \u00a0Additional cooling techniques would be advisable if you want to run for extended periods at higher powers. \u00a01.5 amp at 2.2W will allow for longer \u201con\u201d times and will not degrade the laser as quickly. \u00a0Thermal issues are the number one reason for catastrophic failure of the laser. \u00a0While the mounting case provides heat sinking capability for the laser diode, it is up to the consumer to make sure the Precautions<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Take precaution when handling laser diodes as they are a static sensitive devices.\u00a0 There is a built in protection in the diode which can help in normal static situations but it is no guarantee.\u00a0 Static electricity and electrical surges will degrade the performance of the laser diode.<\/p>\n<p><b>Laser Safety<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Laser light can cause damage to eyesight and skin if proper laser safety is not used.\u00a0 Always wear the appropriate laser goggles to prevent any laser light, either directly or indirectly to contact the eye.\u00a0 Never
